As a translator, I’m used to writing about other people’s ideas, not my own. But that’s about to change because a little extra writing practice never hurt anyone. So here goes. Welcome to my blog: The Fruit Salad!
Why The Fruit Salad? Well, in a nutshell, AI. I’ve been experimenting with AI tools because I have to for work (more about that another time), and I have a bunch of ideas for blog posts that I’ve never done anything with. When I started thinking about names, I figured it would be a good opportunity to see what lex.page had to say.
This is the prompt I gave it: “Help me think of some blog names similar to The Quilt that suggest a patchwork, puzzle, fruit salad, i.e. a bunch of separate things brought together to make a whole.”
Here were the top 5 suggestions:
- The Mosaic
- The Jigsaw
- Patch & Piece
- The Collage
- The Medley
No. So I asked lex.page: “I don’t like The Mosaic, but that best represents the idea I’m thinking of. Is there anything like that related to gardening, recipes, or languages?”
lex.page gave me 10 suggestions for each category. The titles that gave me the biggest chuckle:
- The Melting Potluck
- The Whisked Mosaic
- Patchwork of Tongues
- Voices in Threads
AND - Fruit Salad Stories
Why didn’t I think of that? Oh wait, I did. It’s in my original prompt. Because macédoine de fruits and Leipziger Allerlei popped into my head, but I knew most people wouldn’t know what those were. The funny thing is, I have a history with fruit salad. When I was a kid and my dad was out of town, which didn’t happen often, my mom would let us have popcorn and fruit salad for supper. It was the best! Girl dinner long before it had a name.
This blog will be different. I plan to share a little of everything that comes to mind. There will be some work; maybe some fun things like kittens and gardening; and maybe some thoughts about introversion and imposter syndrome. It might be a little weird, but I think that’s ok. It’s mostly just a chance for me to write, since a little writing practice never hurt anyone. Feel free to stop by every now and then, see how I write when I’m writing for myself, and say hello if you feel so inclined.
And by the way, I wrote this post myself, without AI.
